Silken Windhounds are a small to medium size sighthound developed here in the United States. Silkens are a new breed and have a short history. First recognized as a breed in 1985, the name Silken Windhound was officially adopted in 1998, and the International Silken Windhound Society was chartered in 1999 for the purpose of maintaining the breed's pedigrees and DNA verified registration. The United Kennel Club recognized Silkens for registry in March of 2011. Silken fanciers recognize Francie Stull, of Kristull Ranch, as the founder of our wonderful breed. The Silkens in their short history have proven to be very versatile dogs, excelling in conformation, lure coursing, straight and oval track racing, obedience, agility and rally. They have proven their wonderful temperaments by working as service and therapy dogs. The Silkens are graceful, elegant, beautiful. Athletic, intelligent, gentle. Silly, goofy, funny. Affectionate, loving, devoted. They are wonderful companions happy to join you for a long hike, or an afternoon of lounging on the couch. They can melt your heart with their expression, and make your heart race watching them do what they do best - run! They grace your life with quiet devotion, a loving personality, the desire to please and the ability to make you laugh. We thank you, Francie.
